P460 Dental Ethics 6 - Ethics and Dental Research

  • About This Course

Dentistry is not an exact science in the way that mathematics and physics are.
Even the most widely accepted treatments need to be monitored and evaluated to determine whether they are effective for specific patients and, for that matter, for patients in general.
But there are a number of ethical issues to consider such as: scientific merit; social value; risks and benefits; informed consent, confidentiality, conflict of roles, honest reporting of results.

Learning Outcomes

Aims

  • To identify the main principles of research ethics
  • To know how to balance research and clinical care
  • To understand and satisfy the requirements of ethics review committees
