P780 Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)

Incorrect control of hazardous substances could cause harm to employees, contractors and other people.

Some substances are easily recognised as harmful. Common substances such as paint, bleach or dust from natural materials may also be harmful.

Risk assessment is a legal requirement for all employers and the self-employed. The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (section 2) requires employers and the self-employed to ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of all those who may be affected by work activities.
