P780 Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)

  • About This Course

Incorrect control of hazardous substances could cause harm to employees, contractors and other people.

Some substances are easily recognised as harmful. Common substances such as paint, bleach or dust from natural materials may also be harmful.

Risk assessment is a legal requirement for all employers and the self-employed. The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (section 2) requires employers and the self-employed to ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of all those who may be affected by work activities.

Aims

This course aims to help learners understand what COSHH is and its importance. An overview of the risk assessment process and how to record and retain the findings of a risk assessment, is given.

Objectives

  • To understand what COSHH is and its importance in the workplace.
  • To know the points to be considered when performing a COSHH risk assessment.
