  • About This Course

Each year in the Health and Social Care sector around 2% of workers sustain a work related injury.

78,000 self reported non-fatal workplace injuries were estimated in 2015/2016 of those 25% were attributed to lifitng and handling.

This resulted in 1.2 million lost working days in the UK.

Aims

This course aims to provide learners with knowledge and understanding of the legal responsibilities and the duties placed on employers and employees. An overview of the types of injury that can be caused by poor manual handling practice and understand the best practise for handling loads to maintain a safe working environment, is given.

Objectives

  • To define manual handling and explain the common causes of injury.
  • To recognise manual handling hazards.
  • To undertake an effective manual handling risk assessment.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module you will understand the legal responsibilities and the duties placed on employers and employees, be aware of the types of injury that can be caused by poor manual handling practice and understand the best practise for handling loads to maintain a safe working environment.
