This is the second recorded webinar in a series of five designed for General Dental Practitioners, but especially suitable for recently qualified dentists and those new to working in UK general practice.

The course will boost your skills in orthodontic diagnosis and referral. It will also demonstrate what orthodontics can offer you and your patients, by providing you with an overview of the scope of contemporary orthodontic treatment, including ‘quick’ orthodontic systems.

Aims

This course aims to provide learners with the knowledge and understand of how to effectively monitor the developing dentition and triage patients for orthodontic problems. It discusses the optimal timing and provider setting for an orthodontic referral.

Objectives

 During this course learners will be able to:

  • Identify which patients will benefit from orthodontic treatment on health grounds and the thresholds for treatment within the NHS.
  • Explain the key features to monitor during the developing dentition.
  • Explain when the optimal time is to refer patients and which patients may benefit from interceptive care.
  • Understand the key features of the NHS orthodontic care pathway and common referral mechanisms.
  • Understand the differences between primary and secondary care provider settings and the ideal service provider to refer to.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course the learner will gain an understanding of:

  • How to effectively monitor the developing dentition and triage patients for orthodontic problems and understand the optimal timing and provider setting for an orthodontic referral.
