P540 Dental Care for People with Mental Health Problems

The knowledge and skill of the dental team in managing patients with mental health problems has been cited as low. Low tolerance on the part of dental staff in dealing with clients lack of compliance with oral hygiene, care of prostheses and other issues and the unwillingness or inability of local dental personnel to provide adequate dental care. An understanding dental team, aware of the problems of mental ill health, with good patient management skills, and a sympathetic attitude, may help to allay fears.
