This webinar explores the essential role of dental hygienists and therapists in the long-term success of dental implants within a primary care settings. It provides a comprehensive overview of best practices for prevention, early detection, and management of peri-implant diseases. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of their clinical responsibilities across all stages of implant care — from pre-operative risk assessment and patient education, to post-operative maintenance and monitoring. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based techniques, communication skills, patient motivation, and collaboration with the wider dental team.

Aims

This webinar aims to provide learners with knowledge and understanding of the dental hygienist’s role, and how they can support the patient during the three identified areas of implant placement, as well as establishing the importance of communication within the multidisciplinary team approach to implant care.

Objectives

During the course learners will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the ability to explain implant-related risks and maintenance strategies clearly and effectively to patients.
  • Communicate effectively with the wider dental team to support continuity of care for implant patients.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course the learner will gain an understanding of:

  • The role of the dental hygienist in primary care throughout the patients implant journey during the three identified areas of implant placement.
  • How to communicate within a multidisciplinary team through the implant journey.

Kate Reading qualified as a dental Hygienist from Liverpool in 2004 with Distinction.  She has continued to work within a mix of NHS/private practices and over the last 7 years within a referral practice.  Kate has continued to develop her academic skills studying further with a BSC (hons) in Dental Studies form UCLan, a PG Dip in Positive Health and. a Certificate in Lifestyle Medicine Coaching. 

Kate  has an interest in treating patients with advanced periodontal disease  with non-surgical  periodontal therapy and supporting patients throughout their implant journey.   Kate believes a dental hygienist plays an important role in educating  patients on how to care for their own mouths  and understand the benefist this can  have on their overall health.

Since graduating as a Dental Therapist from the University of Manchester in 2007, Lisa has dedicated her career to private dentistry. For over 10 years, she has worked in referral practices treating patients with advanced periodontal disease and implants. Committed to ongoing growth, Lisa has recently completed a Certificate in Lifestyle Medicine Coaching, expanding her ability to support patients with a more holistic, preventative approach to health.
