This is the second webinar in the series aiming to raise awareness and understanding around the NHS dental contract changes announced in July 2022  (https://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/B1802_First-stage-of-dental-reform-letter_190722.pdf).

This webinar will focus on promoting more effective use of skill-mix.

Learning Outcomes

Aims

  • Understand what the legislation is around direct access and skill mix, and how the Phase 1 DSR changes support a wider use of skill mix 
  • To be aware of the NHSE skill mix guidance 
  • To gain better understanding of vicarious liability, and PGDs
  • To learn how dental teams have worked effectively within current arrangements and potential ways in which teams might use the freedoms which exist

Simon qualified a professional life-time ago and worked mainly in general  practice in the north of England with an interest in prevention.

He has been involved in vocational training since 1992 mainly as a trainer and latterly as a TPD.

Simon is the coordiantor of the national community water fluoridation network raising the profile of the public health measure and campaigning for targeted implementation to reduce inequalities.

Simon has chaired the Local Dental Network for Noth Yorkshire & Humber since 2017 and has been a champion of flexible commissioniong as a method of targeting commissioing resource at oral health need, developing skill-mix delivery of care and moving away from activity based care-models.

Head of Dental Services and Clinical Policy

Paul comes from a primary care dental background, having worked for 13 years in the NHS as a General Dental Practitioner. He has worked for our organisation for 19 years.

His current role involves managing the Dental Services operations team and overseeing Clinical Services work.

He monitors NHS primary dental care across England and Wales. He also works with the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), NHS England and the Welsh Government regarding strategic planning, supporting various dental initiatives and on-going monitoring processes.

Since 1999, he has held a part time honorary clinical teacher post in general dentistry at the Bristol Dental School / University. He also works on the Bristol area Out Of Hours emergency rota.

Professor / Deputy Chief Dental Officer for England/ Honorary Consultant Dental Public Health

Professor Harris qualified in Dentistry from Bristol University, and then moved between clinical roles (including Clinical Director of Salaried Services in South Glamorgan) and academia (Kings College London), before joining the University of Liverpool where I am now Professor and Honorary Consultant in Dental Public Health.
