Webinar Details

As dental implants become increasingly mainstream in general practice, understanding their biomechanical principles is vital for long-term success. This webinar explores the key differences between natural teeth and implants, the implications for occlusal load management, and how restorative design choices influence biomechanical outcomes.

Aims

This course aims to provide learners with knowledge and understanding of the biomechanical principles of dental implants, including occlusal load management, restorative design considerations, and the general dental practitioner’s role in the long-term planning, restoration, and maintenance of implant cases.

Objectives

During this course learners will be able to:

  • Comprehend the distinctions in (biomechanical) performance between natural teeth and implants.
  • Plan occlusion to minimise restorative or integration failure.
  • Identify long-term occlusal changes and their implications.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course the learner will gain an understanding of:

  • To possess the ability to proficiently assess an implant restoration in relation to the current occlusal scheme and monitor the changes in dentition in relation to the occlusal forces exerted on the implant restoration over the long term.

Dr Amin Aminian

Amin Aminian qualified from Liverpool University in 1993.

He moved to Manchester in 1997 to undertake a Masters degree in fixed and removable prosthodontics at the University Dental Hospital Manchester. The degree was awarded in 2000 and he gained his Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons in Glasgow in the same year. He completed a 4-year specialist training programme in Prosthodontics in 2004 and was awarded the MRD (Prosthodontics) from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, in the same year becoming registered on the GDC Specialist List in Prosthodontics.

His referral practice is based in Cheshire and is limited to prosthodontics (predominantly implant reconstructions), management of the worn and failing dentition, where he works within a multi-disciplinary team.

Implant Surgeon

Shushil graduated from the Royal London in 2000 and joined the Faculty of General Dental Practice at the Royal College of Surgeons. He then earned a Diploma in Implant Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Shushil has also served on the board of the Association of Dental Implantologists and trains, teaches and mentors in implant dentistry.

He holds an MSc from the University of Leeds, where his thesis focussed on treatment options for insufficient bone in the maxilla. He has a particular interest in computer-generated guided implant surgery.
