Webinar Details

In collaboration with the College of General Dentistry.

GDPs are the first line for seeing and diagnosing conditions in the oral cavities. Soft tissue anomalies are common in children and adolescents and can pose diagnostic dilemmas or management difficulties. Given a child's development, ability to cope and differences in aetiology, it is important that dental practitioners are aware of the different management options available for children with common oral medicine conditions, and when it is appropriate to refer.

In this webinar, we plan to provide information on the correct, simple management options for common conditions, and a guideline of when and where to refer for more complex issues; ensuring paediatric patients receive the best possible care.

Aims

This webinar aims to provide learners with an overview of the common oral medicine conditions seen in children, their diagnosis and their management, including management which can be initiated by the general dental practitioner.

Objectives

During the webinar learners will be able to:

  • Discuss the aetiology and prevalence of common oral medicine conditions in children.
  • Discuss the management of common oral medicine conditions in children.
  • Provide a comprehensive guide to dental practitioners on when to refer children with oral medicine conditions.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this webinar the learner will gain an understanding of:

  • How to diagnose the common oral medicine conditions in children.
  • How to reassure families regarding diagnosis and simple management options.
  • The long-term impacts of common oral medicine conditions on a growing child.
  • How to confidently refer to the appropriate speciality when necessary.
