Webinar Details

This webinar will explore recent research about custom-made mouthguards and the effects of design differences on patients’ compliance by sharing data about users’ perspective. It will also evaluate the ideal requirements for fabrication and common issues occurring during this process. Finally, it will present evidence for proposed measures that the dental team can take to raise awareness of custom devices, which can limit the incidence of sports-related dental trauma.

The webinar is suitable for all members of the dental team as it will include clinical and technical aspects.

Tutor and Researcher at Manchester Met University

Raya is a registered dental technician, who is currently a tutor at Manchester Met University and an associate member of the Musculoskeletal Science and Sports Medicine Research Centre. Raya completed a PhD in 2019, which examined the effects of custom-made mouthguards on retention, comfort and physiological parameters during exercise. Afterwards, she continued as a postdoctoral researcher at Manchester Met University and worked together with Dental Trauma UK and the Dental Technologists Association to raise awareness of the necessity to increase user compliance with mouthguards and decrease the rate of oral injuries. Raya has previously delivered CPD seminars for Health Education England and presented as invited speaker at the Orthodontic Technicians Association Annual Conference and the National Congress of the Italian Society of Sports Dentistry.
