This module outlines the key changes from the Data Protection Act (DPA) to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and how this may affect you and your business.

This is a European piece of legislation and even though the UK has chosen to leave the EU, GDPR will be adopted in full by the UK.

Currently the Data Protection Act (DPA) controls how your personal information is used by organisations and businesses.

On 25 May 2018 the Data Protection Act (DPA) will be replaced by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

There will be several key changes that you will need to be aware of.

Aims

This course aims to provide learners with knowledge and understanding of the key changes from the Data Protection Act (DPA) to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and how this may affect businesses.

Objectives

  • This course is for all people who process and record data in the dental setting.
  • To give an overview of the changes from the DPA to GDPR.
  • To give an overview of the responsibilities of people with regard to GDPR.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module you will understand the changes taking place in May 2018 when the Data Protection Act (DPA) 1998 is replaced by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
