Editor, Dementia-Friendly Dentistry: Good Practice Guidelines

Paul holds a number of academic posts including an honorary chair at UCLan in the Faculty of Medicine and post at UCL in Dental Public Health. He acts as Chief Facilitator for the Fellowship programme of the College of General Dentistry and held the Vice Dean’s position twice. He is an advisor to the Irish Department of Health for their oral health care policy programme. Currently, he is working on the complete care community programme analysing how the independent contractor groups can better work together. He sits on the advisory board of the Institute of Health and Social Care Management and as an Associate for the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare.

Paul has also worked with the National Audit Office, the Office for Fair Trading and acted as the advisor to the Health Committee on their dental contract reform report and advising the British Dental Association on the programme. He has sat on a number of NICE committees

He is a past President of the British Association for the Study of Community Dental Health and has worked for a number of international and national agencies including the World Bank and WHO  as well as being a member of the European Health Policy Group. Governments advised include: Navarra, the Basque Country, Trinidad and Tobago and Bahrain.

He acts as an examiner for the Overseas Registration Examination as well as for the Intercollegiate Specialist Final Examination in Dental Public Health. He is co-author of the undergraduate textbook Essential Dental Public Health and edited the FGDP(UK)’s standards document on ‘Dementia-Friendly Dentistry’. He is on the Editorial Board of both the British Dental Journal and Primary Dental Care and referees for several other journals.
