Andrew Gulson

Andrew Gulson is a specialist radiation protection scientist and has worked within the Operational Services Department of the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA – formerly Public Health England, PHE) since 1989, having worked for the first three years of his career in the nuclear power industry.  Andrew is a certificated radiation protection adviser (RPA) and provides advice to a wide range of users of ionising radiation. He specialises in dental radiation protection and as part of UKHSA’s Dental X-ray Protection Services has been instrumental in the development of national guidance on the radiation safety aspects of dental cone-beam CT and hand-held dental X-ray equipment. Most recently, he led the working party that produced the second edition of the Dental Guidance Notes, which were co-published with the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK) in October 2020.
