Bridge2Aid is a charity working in the Mwanza region of North West Tanzania. We work closely with the Tanzanian Government to deliver aspects of their dental strategy, operate a not-for-profit dental clinic in the city of Mwanza, and have a community development programme for the poorer communities of the region.
We also deliver the training of local Tanzanian health workers in emergency dentistry through our Dental Volunteer Programme (DVP). During this unique, well-established nine day programme, volunteer UK dentists work on a one-to-one basis with a local Clinical Officer delivering an effective, proven, programme of training in emergency dentistry.
Because of the commitment of our friends and supporters in the UK, we are able to train almost 50 Clinical Officers each year. Since we started the DVP in 2004, over 1.3 million people have been given access to safe emergency oral care.
B2A Community Development
We are committed to helping the poor and disabled (Maskini) community in Mwanza. These people, many of whom suffer with leprosy, live either on the streets or in Bukumbi Care Centre. Our Community Development programme is centred around Bukumbi Care Centre (BCC).
Dental Volunteer Programme
75% of Tanzania's population live in the rural areas. BUT
90% of Tanzania's dental personnel live in cities!
The Tanzanian government solution is to train their local Clinical Officers in emergency dentistry, and Bridge2Aid are helping to achieve that.
In partnership with the regional government, Bridge2Aid have developed a nine day intensive training course in Urgent Dental Treatment for Rural Clinical Officers. The course comprises two elements:
- A three day residential course funded by Bridge2Aid. Clinical Officers receive theoretical instruction from their District Dental Officer.
- A six day intensive practical course, based in rural villages, where clinical officers are trained on a one-to-one basis by volunteer UK dentists travelling to the region as part of the Dental Volunteer Programme.
Oral Health Education
The recent influx of cheap, high sugar drinks and sweets threatens to have a devastating effect on child oral health in the next 10 years unless we can respond. Education is the key to making a lasting difference to the oral health of Mwanza region.
The Unity Partnership
The Bridge2Aid Unity Partnership offers dental practices and businesses a fantastic opportunity to support a local community in Tanzania while generating tangible benefits for the supporting organisation:
- Develop your profile
- Inspire your team
- Outclass the competition
- Strengthen your brand
Fundraising Events
There are many ways to support the work of Bridge2aid. There are a number of great events taking part over the next year:
Climb Kili
Conquer Mount Kilimanjaro, the higest mountain in Africa. Climab to an altitude of 5895 metres and raise some cash along the way.
